Brief History Of This Temple

The temple is located on 612 feet of Munigir Hills. The temple Shikhara was reconstructed by Dhanekula Siva Narayana in 1983. Punah Prana Prathista was performed by Sri Adi Shankaracharya Peetadhipathi Sri Bharathiteerdha Swamy. Later the temple is developed by Sri Sanga Narasimha Rao with the help of local villagers. Lord Vinayaka, Lord Veerabhadra, Lord Nagaraja, are the other shrines in the temple. A Huge image of Lord Bhakta Anjaneya in the temple entrance is the added attraction.

According to the legend, 6th avatara of Lord Vishnu, Parashurama was visiting all holy places and performing poojas to Lord Shiva. He came to Munigir where 1000 munis at a time are performing yagna. Parashurama safeguarded the yagna from Rakshasas. After the yagna, Lord Parashurama installed Shivalinga here and performed Praana Prathista. As Lord Parashurama installed the Shivalinga, thus the name called Ramalingeswara Swamy. As 1000 munis worshipped Lord Shiva around the hill, thus the name was called as Veyimunulakuduru which means the assembly of 1000 munis. Later the name has been changed to Yanamalakuduru.

Yanamalakuduru is famous for Mahasivaratri Tirunaalu. For this eve temple officials decorates Ramalingeswara Swamy Temple with lamps and flowers. People from different parts of the district and NRIs from different parts of the world participate in the Tirunaalu. Brahmotsavam, Prabhotsavam, Gramotsavam, Kalyanotsavam and Vasanthotsavam are other festivals celebrated here.
